The Dublin and & South Eastern Railway was one of the big 6 railway companies on the island of Ireland, serving the east coast and south east of Ireland. One of the
authors wrote a history of the D&SER in 1976, which was panned by review in the journal of the IRRS (not a guarantee of fairness). This publication was not so
panned.
The book covers the rationale for the company serving the south east - focused on Wexford - and subsequent expansion. The interesting and complex interactions in
Dublin, between the Dublin & Bray Railway and the Dublin Dundrum and Rathfarnham Railway is well covered as is the fraught relationship with the D&KR.
The company's operations ended at Wexford town - from there south to Rosslare Harbour was owned by the F&RRR&Hco (which remains the situation today).
Subsequent additions to the newtork were in the form of a branch to Shillelagh and one to Waterford via New Ross.
The usual chapters you would expect in a railway company history, services, accidents, locomotives, rolling stock, description of the route, are present. The book is
very welll illustrated and a significant number of these contain IH interest.
